this issue didn't come together as easily as they usually do, but i think it worked out in the end.

the apostle of hustle is a member of broken social scene, and makes music that is usually sort of weird but occasionally extremely good. this song is very good. we've all heard nomo before - this song starts off sort of boring, but boy does the break in the middle more than make up for it. again, these united states are an old favorite; the backup singing on this song is real good. also again, we've heard broken social scene a few times before - i think that this track actually features the apostle of hustle on lead vocals, coincidentally enough. i *really* like the horns on this one.

i guess this is just an issue full of old friends: yo la tengo are real good and we know lots of their stuff already. Múm were on here before, too, with that remix of their song "Please Sing My Spring". this remixed grizzly bear song is really good - i really like how glitchy and dark it is. i heard the original version of this song for the first time the other day, after having listened to this version for a year or so. they are nothing alike. not even one bit.

this shearwater song is extremely mellow, but very pretty, and worth the time investment. i like this quantic mix of a song by some dude/folks named bathysphere; it is nice to listen to when walking in the rain. finally: i like this bonobo song very much; it is nice to listen to when driving in the rain.

every month, i'll put up a new mixtape on the right side of this inter net site, and some words having to do with that mixtape will run down the left side. some tapes will have more or fewer songs than others, and sometimes tapes will have themes. i hope that the one thing that they will all have in common will be that they are all made of good music, and that my mom and anyone else who cares to listen to them will find new music that they like by listening to these things.

which reminds me: this site is a birthday present for my mom. because, in the words of a wise otter, my mom should always get presents because she is my mom. for the technically inclined: this site is powered by php, duct tape, sheer force of concentration, and a modified version of opentape.

my name is jrheard.
