JULYor, traveling

it's always way harder for me to make summer-month mixtapes, 'cause i want them to have fast, upbeat-ish music, and a lot of the stuff i listen to is a little bit more relaxed (e.g. the bonobo track that made its way into this month's issue). but: i found some songs, and here they are.

harlan t. bobo is some french guy. i have no idea how i got this song. it is awesome. andrew bird you know really well by now; before his current band, he played with andrew bird's bowl of fire, which made awesome sort-of-jazz sort-of-rock stuff that felt like it was from some era back in time. this is one of my favorite songs from that group. yo la tengo have made a lot of music, and are really good at it - check out the video in the links section of this issue, they play an even better version of this song in the second half of it, and the first half's real good too.

devendra's a crazy dude. this is an old song. karl denson has been in a bunch of bands, and makes really good funk music - this song's entirely instrumental and has a lot of solos in it, and i like it a lot. bonobo is completely great. he makes electronic music and is getting very, very good at it - his latest album, black sands, is definitely in my top 25 or so. i don't know much about megafaun, but i like this song.

destroyer is a really weird dude with a really distinctive voice. this is one of his more coherent and good songs. i don't know anything about the roulette sisters, but i've been listening to this song for about five years now. finally, i like this song by zookeeper - it's got some really good images, and is a really good story, although i'm not entirely sure what the story's about.

about

every month, i'll put up a new mixtape on the right side of this inter net site, and some words having to do with that mixtape will run down the left side. some tapes will have more or fewer songs than others, and sometimes tapes will have themes. i hope that the one thing that they will all have in common will be that they are all made of good music, and that my mom and anyone else who cares to listen to them will find new music that they like by listening to these things.

which reminds me: this site is a birthday present for my mom. because, in the words of a wise otter, my mom should always get presents because she is my mom. for the technically inclined: this site is powered by php, duct tape, sheer force of concentration, and a modified version of opentape.

my name is jrheard.
