i guess i'm kind of in a weird music-place these days. i've completely switched to listening to audiobooks when i walk around and to listening to electronic music when i program, so i don't ever find new music with words in it, since the only time i ever really do any new-music discovery is when i'm programming. on top of that, since i've completely switched from itunes to spotify, i've sort of abandoned the concept i used to have of cultivating a music library, since spotify abstracts that concept away. it's a lot easier for me to listen to any given song these days no matter what computer i'm on, but i definitely don't discover as much music as i used to. so himom might be a little bit less frequently updated for the foreseeable future. so it goes.
berry weight we've heard before; i usually like to save this song for the end of a playlist, but in this case it just makes more sense at the beginning. so here it is. i have no idea who the next band is. i stumbled across electric president the other day; their stuff's a little bit rough around the edges, but if you give it a chance it's actually pretty good. the american dollar are a fantastic instrumental band and this song is really good.
i've heard alice russel's voice a lot of times before, i'm pretty sure she sings for bonobo sometimes. this iambic song is just fantastic; it reminds me a lot of the cinematic orchestra at their best. probably my favorite song of the issue. run_return have been on this thing before, they're good. port blue are a good instrumental band for listening to when you program; i don't know anything about sumner mckane, and finally mice parade is really good and it's good to hear his stuff again.
every month, i'll put up a new mixtape on the right side of this inter net site, and some words having to do with that mixtape will run down the left side. some tapes will have more or fewer songs than others, and sometimes tapes will have themes. i hope that the one thing that they will all have in common will be that they are all made of good music, and that my mom and anyone else who cares to listen to them will find new music that they like by listening to these things.
which reminds me: this site is a birthday present for my mom. because, in the words of a wise otter, my mom should always get presents because she is my mom. for the technically inclined: this site is powered by php, duct tape, sheer force of concentration, and a modified version of opentape.
my name is jrheard.
